FAQ

The questions we hear most often — about what Fairhaven Maplewood does, what it costs, and how to get set up. If yours isn't here, a real person is a phone call or email away, any hour of the day.

What is Fairhaven Maplewood, in plain terms?

It's a quiet helper that runs in the background while you use your computer, tablet, or phone. When you land on a website or get a call that matches a known scam, it shows you a clear, simple notice so you can stop and think before you act. There is nothing complicated to learn, and a real person is always there if you'd like to check something.

Who is it for?

We built it for people over 60 who want to shop, bank, and keep in touch with family online without worrying about every email and phone call. That said, it works just as well for anyone who would like a calm second opinion. Many of our members were first set up by an adult child or grandchild.

Do I need to be good with computers to use it?

No. If you can read a message on your screen, you can use Fairhaven Maplewood. Our founder, Margaret, tests every feature on a laptop kept in large-font mode — if it isn't easy to use at that setting, it doesn't ship. Once it is installed there are no settings to fiddle with and nothing to remember. It simply runs.

How does the free trial work?

You can try everything free for 30 days. We don't ask for a card to start, so there is nothing to cancel if you decide it isn't for you. At the end of the 30 days you choose whether to continue — and if you do, our summer offer takes 20% off your first two months with the code SUMMER26.

What does it cost after the trial?

There are three simple plans. Essentials is ¥980 a month for one device. Plus is ¥1,780 a month for up to three devices and adds a monthly 15-minute check-in call. Family is ¥2,480 a month, covers up to five devices across two households, and includes a shared dashboard so an adult child can help out. You can change plans or cancel at any time.

How many devices can I protect?

It depends on your plan: one device on Essentials, up to three on Plus, and up to five — across two households — on Family. A "device" simply means a computer, tablet, or smartphone. If you aren't sure which plan fits, call us and we'll work it out together. There is no pressure to pick the largest one.

What happens when it spots something suspicious?

You'll see a clear notice on the screen, written in plain language rather than technical jargon, telling you what looked wrong and what to do next. Usually that's as simple as "don't enter your details here" or "hang up and call your bank using the number printed on your card." Most websites are checked in under two seconds, so it never gets in your way.

Will it slow down my computer, and is my information private?

There is no noticeable slowdown — the checks happen quickly and quietly in the background. We only look at whether a site or caller matches a known scam pattern. We don't read your emails, track your browsing to sell advertising, or pass your information to anyone. You can read exactly what we do and don't collect in our privacy policy.

Can my son or daughter help look after my account?

Yes, and many families do. The Family plan includes a separate dashboard that shows flagged events to a trusted relative — but only with your permission, and they can't take over your computer or watch what you're doing. It's there so someone can lend a hand if something looks worrying, not to look over your shoulder.

Is there really a person I can talk to?

Always. Our support line is staffed 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including weekends and public holidays. If an email or a call leaves you unsure, you can ring us and someone will talk it through with you — even at eleven on a Sunday evening. Call +81 55-977-1336 or email hello@fairhavenmaplewood.com.

How often is the scam information updated?

Continuously, and never more than 48 hours out of date. New scams appear all the time, so our team adds fresh patterns around the clock and your protection updates itself automatically. You don't have to download anything or press any buttons — it keeps itself current in the background.

How do I cancel if I change my mind?

Just email or call us and we'll stop your subscription — no forms, no waiting on hold, and no questions designed to talk you out of it. There is no contract and no cancellation fee. If you cancel partway through a month, you keep access until that month is over.

How do I get started?

The easiest way is to send us a message or give us a call, and we'll walk you through it step by step — including setting it up on your behalf if you'd like. If a family member is helping, they're welcome to join the call too. Most people are up and running in about ten minutes.

Still have a question?

We're glad to help, and there's no such thing as a silly question. Reach us any hour of the day — a real person will answer.
